چکیده
This paper reports on work in a neu branch of research in statistical methods: applications of interactive computer graphics. I describe several programs uritten for the Orion I workstation, an -experimental computer graphics system built at the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center in 1980-81. These programs demonstrate new methods for data analysis made possible by advances in microprocessor and computer graphics technology. These methods make extensive use of color, real-time motion, and interaction to discover structure in many-dimensional data. Two approaches to graphical analysis of many-dimensional data are discussed in detail: interactive projection pursuit and simultaneous, mu1 tiple views.

A variable span scatterplot smoother based on local linear fits is described. Local cross-validation is used to estimate the optimal span as a function of abscissa value. A rejection rule is suggested to make the smoother resistant against outliers. Computationally efficient algorithms making use of updating formulas and corresponding FORTRAN subroutines are presented.
متن کاملImpostors for Parallel Interactive Computer Graphics
We introduce an interactive parallel rendering system based on the impostors technique. Impostors increase the latency tolerance of an interactive rendering system, which allows us to use the power of the parallel machine even at high resolutions and framerates. Impostors also decrease the required rendering bandwidth, which makes possible the interactive use of advanced rendering techniques li...
متن کاملAn Architecture for Interactive Raster Graphics
A radical reappraisal of the 3-D Interactive raster graphics pipeline has resulted In an experimental architecture for a workstation which is currently being evaluated at the CW!. The principal features of this architecture are that It: concentrates exclusively on real-time interactive 3-D graphics (initially for CAD). uses object space rather than Image space methods where possible. avoids usi...
متن کاملMassive Protoplanetary Disks in Orion Beyond the Trapezium Cluster
We present Submillimeter Array observations of the 880μm continuum emission from three circumstellar disks around young stars in Orion that lie several arcminutes (& 1-pc) north of the Trapezium cluster. Two of the three disks are in the binary system 253-1536. Silhouette disks 216-0939 and 253-1536a are found to be more massive than any previously observed Orion disks, with dust masses derived...
متن کاملOrion: an Advanced Accelerator Facilty at Slac*
Extending the center-of-mass energy frontier for highenergy physics depends on the research and development that is conducted now in the area of advanced accelerator physics and technology. In this article, we present the design and beam dynamics simulations for the emittancecompensated, RF photoinjector of the ORION Facility.
